Goldcrest has concluded a deal to sell all international rights to Stonewall. Currently in post-production, the film has already been acquired by Warner Bros. for the German market and an announcement in relation to a US deal is anticipated.

Stonewall stars Jeremy Irvine (Woman in Black: The Angel of Death, The Railway Man, War Horse), Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Mission Impossible III, Tudors, Golden Globe winner Elvis), Ron Perlman (Drive, Hellboy I and II) and Joey King (White House Down, The Conjuring) and faithfully recreates the events that culminated in the riots outside the Stonewall Inn, Greenwich Village, in June 1969. Audiences will have a front row seat to the birth of the gay rights movement, and a unique insight into events that are celebrated annually with parades around the world.

The drama centres on  Danny Winters (Irvine), a young man who is kicked out of his home by his parents and flees to NY where, homeless and destitute, he befriends a group of street kids who soon introduce him to the watering hole of local drag queens, gays, lesbians and everything in between: the Mafia-run Stonewall Inn.

There he meets the suave Trevor (Meyers), but catches the eye of the Stonewall’s repulsive manager (Perlman), who colludes with corrupt police, exploits homeless youth for financial gain and is even suspected to have had a hand in some of their “disappearances”.

Stonewall is directed by Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, The Patriot, The Day After Tomorrow) from a screenplay by Jon Robin Baitz (Brothers and Sisters) and is produced by Emmerich, Michael Fossat, Marc Frydman (Flyboys, The Contender) and Carsten Lorenz (Harold & Kumar, Odd Thomas) and Executive Produced by Adam Press, Michael Roban and Kirstin Winkler.

Pascal Degove, Managing Director of Goldcrest Films notes: Roland Emmerich has demonstrated time and again that he has a unique ability to connect with audiences of all shapes and sizes. It’s hugely gratifying to be working on his only independent film in decades, and we’re thrilled to be introducing Stonewall to our distributors at the EFM.”

Roland Emmerich, Director continued:  “Goldcrest’s enthusiasm and insight makes them natural partners on a very personal filmmaking endeavour. We couldn’t be in better hands.”
