                    Thursday, 6th February 2014

Pascal Degove, Managing Director of Goldcrest Films (Goldcrest) announced today that Martin Sheen will star in psychological horror The Autopsy of Jane Doe, director Andre Øvredal’s hotly anticipated follow-up to his acclaimed international hit Troll Hunter. The film will shoot this summer in London, and subsequent casting announcements are anticipated to follow shortly.

Sheen will play Tommy, a small-town mortician who receives a mysterious homicide victim – a beautiful young “Jane Doe”, with no apparent cause of death. As Tommy and his son attempt to figure out how she died and who she is, they discover increasingly bizarre clues, which hold the key to her terrifying secrets.

Based on an original screenplay by Ian Goldberg & Richard Naing, The Autopsy of Jane Doe is produced by Fred Berger (Taking Chance) and Eric Garcia (Matchstick Men) under their Impostor Pictures banner alongside Rory Aitken and Ben Pugh of 42 (Welcome to the Punch, Monsters: Dark Continent). Goldcrest’s Nick Quested and Pascal Degove are serving as Executive Producers. Goldcrest Post (home to the Academy Award winning sound team from Les Misérables) will be providing picture and sound post production services.

Martin Sheen's body of work speaks for itself. From his breakout roles in Terence
Malik’s Badlands and Apocalypse Now, to his memorable turns in films like Wall Street, The Departed, and The Amazing Spider-Man, and his indelible portrayal of US President Jed Bartlett in The West Wing, he has held audiences in thrall for over 40 years. In a career spanning five decades, he has received ten Primetime Emmy Award nominations, eight Golden Globe nominations, winning one of each, and earned multiple SAG awards.

Goldcrest Films is fully financing and selling the film, which has garnered substantial buzz from its appearance on the 2013 Blacklist (and its genre equivalent, the 2013 Bloodlist) as well as the excitement of director Andre Øvredal’s cult following. Sheen is represented by ICM Partners.

Notes director Andre Øvredal: "Being a lifelong fan of Martin Sheen, I am honored and thrilled to get the opportunity to work with him. He also perfectly embodies everything I want his character in the movie to be, so this is a dream come true for me. I intend to make The Autopsy of Jane Doe a movie that will thrill, scare and delight the widest possible audience."

The Autopsy of Jane Doe has already generated significant anticipation among our distribution partners, Martin Sheen’s commitment is a further indication of the quality of the script and the strength of Andre as a filmmaker.” comments Pascal Degove Managing Director Goldcrest Films.
